Who We Are

We Love All People - One Neighbour at a Time

We respectfully acknowledge that we are on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (Kwikwetlem First Nation), and we are grateful to live, work, serve, and gather on this land.”

Our Belief

We believe in a loving and purposeful God who created the world and cares deeply about every person. At the heart of our faith is Jesus, who shows us what love, forgiveness, and a transformed life can look like. We believe that everyone is invited into a new beginning—marked by grace, hope, and restored relationship with God and others.

As a community, we seek to live out this hope through compassion, integrity, learning, and service—working for the good of our neighbours and sharing a message of love that is meant for all people.

We share our statement of faith with the Canadian National Baptist Convention.

Our Team

Conrad Au

Conrad has called Coquitlam home since he was 8 years old and saw the city grow from a small district to an emerging metropolis. He grew up in one Coquitlam home, but managed to attend numerous SD43 schools (Walton, Panorama Heights, and Pinetree Way Elementaries; Hastings Jr. Secondary [now Maple Creek Middle]; and Pinetree Secondary) as new schools kept opening closer to his childhood home in the '90s. After graduating from Simon Fraser University, he had set his sights on a career in sports broadcast journalism and even spent parts of a hockey season working in hockey operations with the Vancouver Canucks.

Then Conrad's life shifted when he experienced Jesus' love for the first time - a mentor who spoke truth and grace into his life led Conrad to start seeking Greater Things. After several years working in churches, Conrad began to imagine what community transformation can look like. It became clear through the Christian Bible: Love God, Love Neighbours. Serve All. He now works a full-time job with the Government of Canada while supporting the vision of The Common Place: Loving All People - One Neighbour at a Time.

Conrad is married to Rachel. He is a masters graduate from the Canadian Baptist Theological Seminary and College.

Rachel Au

Rachel was born and raised in Abbotsford. She grew up on a humble raspberry farm and learned the value of hard work. Christian values were at the heart of Rachel's upbringing. She and her family has served in ways that, while not often spotlighted, bring joy and hope to those impacted. After a stint at Capernwray School in England, she returned home and graduated from the University of Fraser Valley and took on a Human Resource role at Power to Change.

After meeting Conrad through a mutual friend, Rachel married Conrad in the summer of 2020 (yes, a COVID wedding) and moved to Coquitlam. She's grown to love the beautiful scenery and the diversity of her neighbours here in Coquitlam. She works in People and Culture at Trinity Western University while supporting the vision of The Common Place: Loving All People - One Neighbour at a Time.

Our Partners

We can't do it all on our own - and we're never meant to be alone. The Common Place has always partnered with individuals and organizations (who may or may not share our beliefs in Jesus) to help meet needs of our neighbours.

We're thankful for our current partners locally and abroad!
